Fitness Workout For Our Older Residents

This morning, 12 of our lovely residents took part in an exercise session run by Sonia from Golden Year’s Fitness. Exercises take place every Monday morning at the home and are designed to gently work the resident’s muscles and improve flexibility and mobility.

The residents enjoy the workout every Monday and look forward to the hour-long session. Sonia modifies the exercises for those who are unable to do certain moves, which ensures as many residents as possible get to take part in the fun.

Today, they have used pilates bands to improve their leg muscles, played catch with a football and lifted weighted bean bags to help their upper body strength. They also waved around cheer-leading pompoms and lifted a huge parachute up and down for a cardio workout.

The exercise group is just one session we run from our popular activities schedule. Residents also enjoy arts and crafts sessions once a week and have regular visits from musicians who play live music. We also have people visit the home with their pets, so residents can interact with animals and regular visits from church representatives, so residents can participate in Holy Communion.

The pictures show just how much the residents enjoyed the exercise session this morning. Afterwards the residents moved to the dining room for a well-deserved lunch!
